Printing on Fabric

See what you can do with lots of yardage! We started with tons of yardage from Ikea's clearance. Dorothy washed and bleached it. Then the fun stuff starts! I carved some stamps from the double thick craft foam, chose my color palette and stamped away with a bit of hand painting thrown in for depth of design. Dorothy used her own hand with paint markers and some store bought stamps. Miss Hap came in late, made a mess and screwed up her design (pictures to follow). This yardage can be used any how you want! Think beach bags, dish towels, table runners, pillows! This step is all about experimentation, trying out colors and designs. Once you find a color palette and design that you like, you can find the fabric you need for the particular application and go!
Step by step below

A bleach bath will take out some of the color of your fabric and give it a new personality.
  • Foam brushes
  • Selection of acrylic paints
  • Fabric medium
  • foam plate
  • Ready-made stamps
  • Use double-thick foam to cut your own stamps
  • Use art knife to cut foam
  • Pencil to draw design on foam
With a foam brush I applied paint to my hand-cut stamp.  Postition your stamp over fabric and press all over.  Gently lift.  Here's where you experiment with design.
After an afternoon of fun we ended up with a clothesline full of samples.  Now comes the fun of figuring out what to do with these pieces!
